Sammy

Sam has graduated!! He completed high school in three years and has been accepted at the University of Indianapolis in late August where he plans to pursue a doctorate in Physical Therapy.  He also has the opportunity for direct admit into the completion of his doctorate degree as long as grade requirements are met.  He still loves playing piano at his church but no longer takes lessons and hopes to assist coaching his former soccer team.  His soccer took an abrupt halt in early October when he tore his ACL and meniscus and had to have  surgery.  After having done 60 hours of shadowing previously, he definitively knew he wanted Dr. Shelbourne to do his surgery and Dr. Bauman to be his Physical Therapist. They took tendon from the right knee to put into the left so the surgery was on both knees and required months of very taxing exercises.  He had to spend the entire first week flat on his back but was blessed with many faithful visitors.  He was released to play spring soccer in mid-March.

Sam just returned from two weeks of Counselor training at the Wilds Christian Camp in North Carolina.  He has four days at home and will then be off for a very brief trip to  England and Italy with his mom.  Upon retrun he will have three days before Ministry Week with an organization called Phos Ontos (Greek for Light & Truth) which is led by Mike and Pam Bandy and part of Spectrum Minestries. About 55 teens will work from 8 am to 9 pm doing projects for churches, nursing homes (just giving love and entertainment to patients), and various organizations who have need of repair, painting, and various other items for their facilities.  After two weeks at home, he will go to Michigan with his grandparents to visit his Great Uncle Pete for a couple days and then on to their 9th annual family camp (Monday - Friday).   Upon return, Sam will have just two weeks to get everything ready before College at UIndy starts. Sam also still works part-time at CC Dental Lab.

Over the years when people learned Sam was home-schooled, his parents and grandparents were often asked, "What about a social life".  As you can see home-schoolers can have a very busy and active social life and it can be a very rewarding way of completing the elementary and high school years.
